In 1931, a pharmacist and ski enthusiast at Maria Schutz Pharmacy created Labisan® to help climbers with cold sores. It quickly gained popularity and was trademarked internationally by 1936.
By 1990, stricter Austrian regulations led to the development of Labisan® med, available only in pharmacies. Maria Schutz Pharmacy also introduced Labisan® protective for everyday lip care. Today, Labisan® remains a trusted solution for cold sores.
Conquering Everest
In 1953, Labisan® played a crucial role in Sir Edmund Hillary’s legendary first ascent of Mount Everest, thanks to an English rep named Lawrie. Since then, it’s been a trusted companion for climbers tackling the world’s highest peaks, including Hermann Buhl during his first ascent of Nanga Parbat. In 1995, Theo Fritsche and Roland Mattle successfully summited Dhaulagiri (8167m) with Labisan®, proving its reliability in extreme conditions. During the 1998 Vorarlberg expedition to Makalu, Labisan® remained a steadfast companion despite adverse weather, captured in images taken at 6600m.
